The Traveling Economic Angel

The Traveling Economic Angel

According to legend, angels are widely believed to be mystical intermediaries possessing the ability to create abundance and help others. And, that’s what the Traveling Economic Angel is all about, creating abundance and helping our community.

On November 22, 2008, she was sent to the Children’s Museum. She is adorned with a 49 state coins from the Philadelphia Mint and is surrounded by another 49 from the Dallas Mit, valued at $58.00. (The Hawaii coins are not yet available in Marquette, Michigan.)

The Traveling Economic Angel would like one person to make a cash donation of up to $500.00 to the Children’s Museum; then an earthly economic angel, Tawni Ferrarini, will match his or her contribution. On making your contribution, you, the Children's Museum bidder, will receive the traveling angel. The coins are yours to keep. The bidder is then encouraged to continue the Angel’s travels by donating her to another community cause. My hope is that you will continue match the contribution component.

Help trumpet the power of angels…it just makes good economic sense.

Note: This philanthropic idea surfaced after attending a Liberty Fund colloquium where attendees discussed the importance of protecting the individual rights of all. As Adam Smith effectively argued in the Wealth of Nations (1776) and The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759), individuals best help society and others by engaging in the self-interested behaviors that help them make the most from their talents, education, skills and experiences. They do what they do best and maximize their income by doing so. This self-interested passion then allows them to turn to others and make great charitable contributions. Contrary to some beliefs, the majority of people are not selfish or greedy! They are caring and wanting to help others -- privately and publically.
